University Of Michigan Accepting MFA Art Applications For Fall 2027

(MENAFN- USA Art News) The University of Michigan's Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design is currently accepting applications for its MFA in Art program for the Fall 2027 intake. The program, which U.S. News and World Report ranks #11 nationally among graduate art and design schools, offers a fully funded, interdisciplinary, and research-based environment for creative practice.

Under the direction of MFA Program Director Angela Washko, students engage in materially sophisticated and conceptually rigorous work. This development is supported by funded travel and interactions with diverse communities, institutions, and creative contexts. Graduates are prepared for international exhibitions, securing tenure-track positions at leading institutions, creating public art, and shaping cultural organizations globally.

The two-year program provides students with access to faculty from Stamps and the extensive resources and collaborative opportunities available at the University of Michigan, which TIME recognized as a top public research university. Additionally, students connect with nationally and internationally recognized visiting artists and critics through studio visits, critiques, and other events, receiving personalized feedback, diverse perspectives, and valuable professional connections.

Writer and art critic Aruna D'Souza commented on the program:“I've been to a lot of MFA thesis shows around the country and I can say with confidence this is one of the best I've encountered, not only because of the strength and complexity and pleasures offered by the individual projects, but also because of the sense that the artists were talking and thinking together, learning and being inspired by each other. That such a strong sense of conversation could result in really unique and individual artistic voices is truly remarkable.”

Prospective students can explore the Stamps MFA program through work from its most recent thesis exhibition and learn more about graduate programs at upcoming events, including a Virtual Open House on Thursday, November 12, 2026. The application deadline is January 3, 2027. More information is available at href="" umich/mf.
