Cyberattack Targets Japan's Digital Agency, Putting Personal Data At Risk
Tokyo: Japan's Digital Agency reported today that approximately 246,000 personal data records may have been leaked following unauthorized access to a government network.
According to Japan's Kyodo news agency, the data includes the names and addresses of central government employees; however, there has been no confirmation to date that the information has been misused.
The digital agency stated that it detected the unauthorized network access on June 25, revealing that the breach began in late May using the account of an employee responsible for maintenance and operations.
It added that the account in question has been suspended, apologized for the incident, and pledged to strengthen cybersecurity measures.
