Ne-Yo Responds To Lawsuit Over Cancelled Sri Lanka Concert

(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) Ne-Yo's team has rejected allegations made by Sri Lankan concert promoter Brown Boy Presents over a cancelled performance in Colombo, calling the claims“fraudulent and misleading.”

A spokesperson for the singer told TMZ that Brown Boy Presents is not owed money by Ne-Yo and instead owes the singer answers regarding what the team described as misconduct.

According to Ne-Yo's representatives, the promoter was contractually required to pay the singer's performance fee in full before the show and cover roundtrip travel expenses for Ne-Yo and his team. The team claims the promoter failed to meet both obligations despite being given multiple opportunities to resolve the issues. It further alleged that the promoter did not have the financial resources to fulfil its contractual commitments, leaving Ne-Yo with no choice but to withdraw.

Brown Boy Presents has filed a lawsuit claiming it paid at least US$284,460 toward a US$325,000 performance guarantee for a concert scheduled in Colombo in December. The promoter alleges that complications arose after Ne-Yo's team changed travel arrangements for its group, significantly increasing airfare costs.

Brown Boy Presents claims an initial quote for five members of Ne-Yo's party was approximately US$57,000, before a revised travel package increased the cost to nearly US$93,000.

The promoter alleges that Ne-Yo's team ultimately cancelled the performance and retained the money already paid, despite the singer later publicly indicating that he still wanted to perform in Sri Lanka.

Brown Boy Presents also claims that Ne-Yo's team later approached one of its Sri Lankan ticketing partners about another performance without involving the promoter.

The promoter is seeking the return of more than US$284,000, along with additional damages. The allegations remain disputed by Ne-Yo's team.
