Richter Pavilion To Light Up Doha's Art Scene

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Doha's MIA Park is set for a striking new landmark: a permanent pavilion conceived by celebrated artist Gerhard Richter, bringing his paintings, sculpture and architectural vision together.

Her Excellency Chairperson of Qatar Museums Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad al-Thani announced the project in Berlin Thursday. Doha Pavilion: Gerhard Richter will be unveiled on November 20, ahead of Qatar's inaugural contemporary art quadrennial, Rubaiya Qatar.

Realised with Selldorf Architects, the hexagonal structure will feature patterned exterior panels, with Richter's Strip paintings and Mirrors inside and his Strip Tower at its centre.

The idea took shape after Richter visited Doha in 2013, finding inspiration in its architecture and history.

“Doha is the right place and the only place for my pavilion,” he said.

Sheikha Al Mayassa described the project as a lasting legacy of the Qatar-Germany 2017 Year of Culture, offering a new space for reflection and engagement.

Opening November 21 and running until April 30, 2027, Rubaiya Qatar will feature more than 50 artists, 25 new commissions and six public art installations.
