SC Collegium Recommends Judicial Officer Bourney As HC Judge


(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Srinagar- The Supreme Court Collegium has approved the recommendation for the appointment of senior judicial officer Yash Paul Bourney as a Judge of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

The decision was taken at the meeting of the Supreme Court Collegium held on September 10.

In its statement, the Collegium said it had approved the proposal for the appointment of Yash Paul Bourney, Judicial Officer, as a Judge of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

The Supreme Court Collegium is headed by Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant and comprises Justice Vikram Nath and Justice B.V. Nagarathna.

The recommendation of Bourney comes shortly after Dr. Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati assumed office as the Chief Justice of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh, following his swearing-in on Monday.

Bourney is presently serving as Member, J&K Special Tribunal, Jammu, on deputation. He assumed the present posting on November 14, 2025.

According to his service particulars, Bourney belongs to Village Dadwara, Bhaddu, Billawar, Kathua. He was born on August 25, 1967, and entered judicial service on December 1, 1997. He entered the present cadre of District and Sessions Judge (Super Time Scale) on August 30, 2011.

Bourney has had nearly three decades of experience in the judicial service since his entry in 1997.

The Collegium's recommendation is now required to go through the prescribed appointment process, following which the formal notification of appointment will be issued by the competent authority.
