Zelensky: Ukraine Could See First Negotiation Results By End Of September

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The Ukrainian President said this while speaking to media representatives in Canada, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

“I think we will not have truly substantive negotiations during Russia's election period (the parliamentary elections in Russia will be held on September 20 – ed.). We understand this, but at the end of September we will have an opportunity to meet with the American team in New York. During this period, every day my advisers and national security advisers are in contact with the American team,” Zelensky said.

He noted that there is a chance to“achieve the first results” of the negotiations by the end of September.

The President also recalled that he is scheduled to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump in New York at the end of the month.

“Right now, we are raising the issue of potential results regarding energy and food security. And I think we can [achieve them], and I will be able to speak more openly after the meeting with President Trump in New York. I hope we will find an opportunity to do this,” Zelensky said.

He noted that the issue of grain exports is a problem not only for Ukraine and Russia but for the entire world.

“We have held talks over the past few months – very important talks with Egypt, India, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the United States – and everyone says that blocking food supplies for the entire world, simply for people, is a major challenge. And this is not just a challenge for Ukrainians or for the Russians – it is a challenge for the whole world. Food security is very important, and therefore we are ready. We discussed how this could happen and shared our views. But it depends on the Russians,” Zelensky said.

He noted that the Russians are currently“not flexible on these issues,” but expressed hope that“strong leaders can push them toward the right positions.”
