Zelensky: First FREYJA Anti-Ballistic System Expected To Be Ready By Year-End

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The Ukrainian President said this while speaking to media representatives in Canada, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

“We are working on FREYJA, and we are very pleased that today we had an opportunity to discuss it with the Prime Minister, and Canada will join this program. This will be our new anti-ballistic system. The companies told us that they need 20–30 years for a new ballistic missile system. I said that we do not want such a long war. Absolutely not. No, that belongs to a different world, to the 20th century. Today, there are new technologies and a new Ukraine, and we can do all of this faster. And we expect to have the first system by the end of this year,” Zelensky said.

He noted that the FREYJA anti-ballistic program was discussed in Norway and in Canada today.

“And we also expect that in New York we will have a clearer understanding of the timeline for all our steps, because this is about defense,” the Ukrainian President said.

As reported earlier, FREYJA is a prospective pan-European project for an integrated air and missile defense system focused on intercepting ballistic missiles. Ukraine is developing it jointly with European countries, with the participation of Fire Point, as a cheaper and mass-produced alternative to the U.S. Patriot air defense systems.
