India's Merchandise Exports Grow Over 15% In April-August, Cross USD 200 Bn: Goyal
“Despite all the global turmoil that the world is going through today, I am happy to share that our merchandise exports have grown by upwards of 15 per cent between April and August,” Goyal said at the BRICS Women's Business Alliance Summit in New Delhi.
India's merchandise exports stood at USD 183 billion during April-August of the previous financial year. In April-July 2026, merchandise exports had already risen 17 per cent year-on-year to USD 174 billion, according to official data.
The Department of Commerce is expected to release the August trade data on September 15, reported Business Standard.
Trade Deals To Support USD 1 Trillion Export Target
The strong export performance comes as India targets total exports of USD 1 trillion, with recently concluded trade agreements expected to support greater market access for Indian goods and services, Goyal said.
He said India had finalised trade arrangements providing preferential access to 38 developed economies over the past four and a half years, covering around two-thirds of global trade.
“We will expand this to 60 to 75 economies” over the next year and a half, Goyal said.
India has concluded eight trade agreements over the past five years with partners including the UK, European Union, European Free Trade Association (EFTA), New Zealand and Australia.
In the current year, India has already implemented trade agreements with Oman and the UK, while the agreement with New Zealand is expected to be implemented by March, Goyal said.
