Ryazan Oil Refinery Shuts Down After Drone Attack, Reuters Reports

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) According to Ukrinform, Reuters reported this, citing two industry sources.

According to the agency's sources, the Ryazan refinery's main unit, AVT-6, as well as another major unit, AVT-4, were shut down following the attack.

It is noted that AVT-6, which, according to the sources, caught fire during the attack, is capable of refining 8 million metric tons of crude oil per year (about 160,000 barrels per day), which accounts for nearly half of the refinery's capacity.

According to the publication, the AVT-4 unit can process 4 million metric tons of crude oil per year.

The plant's other main unit, AVT-3, has been undergoing maintenance since mid-May.

Sources reported that repairs to the damaged units could take up to several weeks.

Rosneft did not respond to a request from Reuters for comment on the attack on the refinery.

According to industry sources, the Ryazan Refinery processed 13.1 million metric tons of crude oil in 2024, accounting for about 4.9% of Russia's total refining volume.

This year, the facility produced 2.2 million metric tons of gasoline, as well as 3.4 million metric tons of diesel fuel and 4.3 million metric tons of fuel oil.

It is noted that the Ryazan refinery, which supplies fuel to Moscow, came under drone attack on May 15 and July 29. After the first attack, repair work at the plant lasted until about mid-July, and after the second, for about two to three weeks, sources said.

As reported by Ukrinform, the Defense Forces struck oil refineries in three regions of Russia, as well as a storage facility and launch sites for attack drones in the Kursk region.
