Türkiye Maintains Strong Tourism Performance Despite Regional Tensions
(MENAFN) Türkiye’s tourism industry has continued to perform strongly throughout the summer despite conflicts and geopolitical uncertainty across the surrounding region, according to tourism officials.
The country has remained an attractive and stable destination despite rising tensions in neighboring states, with Russia, Germany and the UK continuing to represent its leading tourism markets.
“Türkiye stands like an oasis amid so much turmoil and continues to maintain this status in its tourism sector,” he said.
Tourism authorities are also seeking to expand cultural, gastronomic and business travel offerings while preserving the country’s coastal tourism capacity, which remains a major draw for international visitors.
Health tourism has experienced particularly rapid growth over the past decade, while conference tourism has also continued to develop.
“We’ve seen progress gradually continuing in conference tourism, as well,” he said.
The sector has also faced concerns over international digital travel platforms. Tourism representatives are calling for regulations that ensure fair competition and prevent foreign companies from gaining an advantage over businesses operating domestically.
“Everyone has really suffered in Europe due to these issues and they’re imposing heavy fines on these platforms — we must avoid legal regulations that could work against those operating in Türkiye or provide them with an advantage,” he noted.
The Turkish Travel Agencies’ Association plans to lobby lawmakers when parliament resumes in October, seeking to prevent policies that could increase the influence of foreign companies over the country’s tourism industry.
“It’s extremely wrong to hand this sector over to foreigners because they will sell or won’t sell when they feel like so, as all of this is possible in the digital environment,” he said.
The association has also highlighted its centralized Digital Verification System, which allows travelers to confirm their reservations and identify whether bookings have been made through legitimate, licensed operators.
