Swiss Embassy Marks National Day, Highlights Jordan Ties
Amman, Sept. 10 (Petra) -- The Swiss Embassy in Jordan marked Switzerland's National Day on Wednesday evening, highlighting more than 75 years of relations and cooperation between Switzerland and Jordan.
The event brought together more than 1,000 guests, including over 200 children, as well as representatives of Jordanian institutions, the diplomatic corps, international organizations, the private sector, civil society, and the Swiss community in Jordan.
Swiss Ambassador to Jordan Emilija Georgieva highlighted cooperation between the two countries in areas including the environment, science diplomacy, education, vocational training, and youth development.
She pointed to joint efforts addressing water and environmental challenges, including the Blue Peace Middle East Initiative and the Water Diplomacy Center hosted by Jordan University of Science and Technology, noting the role of scientific knowledge and dialogue in addressing regional challenges.
Georgieva also emphasized education and opportunities for young people, citing Swiss support for initiatives aimed at strengthening vocational and technical skills and improving employment prospects.
The ambassador referred to partnerships represented during the event, including cooperation with the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts, whose students prepared traditional Swiss dishes such as raclette and bratwurst.
She also highlighted educational and professional exchanges between the two countries and the role of the Swiss-Jordanian Alumni Association in strengthening links between graduates and institutions.
Georgieva further noted the embassy's partnership with the Turquoise Mountain Foundation in vocational training. The event featured musical performances and children's activities.
In a statement, the embassy indicated that relations between Switzerland and Jordan have expanded over the years across diplomacy, development cooperation, science, education, business, culture, and people-to-people ties.
Switzerland intends to continue developing bilateral exchange and cooperation in the coming years, it added. //Petra// AO
