Jordan Contracting Sector Eyes JD12B In Projects Over Coming Years

Amman, Sept. 10 (Petra) -- Jordan's contracting sector is poised for a new phase of activity, with projects in vital sectors worth approximately JD12 billion expected to be implemented over the coming years, Jordanian Construction Contractors Association (JCCA) President Fuad Dweiri said Thursday.

Speaking at a JCCA meeting with water and sanitation contractors, Dweiri said the projects will cover the water, gas, railway, sanitation and road sectors, describing the expected increase in activity as a "qualitative shift" following years of declining project volumes due to economic and regional conditions.

He said the Association, in coordination with the Ministry of Public Works, plans to hold a workshop bringing together relevant ministries, institutions and stakeholders to review projects and work scheduled for the coming years, allowing contractors to prepare for their implementation in advance.

Dweiri noted that the al-Risha gas pipeline project is linked to the development of 84 gas wells and was tendered under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model.

He added that the Association is continuing efforts to activate its Water and Sanitation Committee and complete the necessary procedures in coordination with consulting firm ECO Consult.

The JCCA Vice President Marouf Ghananim said the coming years are expected to bring significant activity in the water, railway, and gas sectors, among others, stressing the need to address challenges facing contractors and streamline procedures.

He said the sector must capitalize on the expected projects by strengthening its execution capabilities, ensuring local companies can participate in upcoming projects, and enhancing their technical and operational readiness.
