US Strike Kills Three In Suspected Caribbean Drug Operation
(MENAFN) Three people were killed Wednesday when US forces targeted a vessel suspected of transporting drugs in the Caribbean, according to US military officials.
The operation was conducted by Joint Task Force Western Hemisphere against a speedboat traveling along “established narco-trafficking routes.”
US Southern Command said intelligence had confirmed the vessel was involved in drug trafficking, describing those killed in the strike as “narco-terrorists.”
The latest operation forms part of a continuing US military campaign targeting vessels allegedly linked to narcotics trafficking across the Caribbean Sea and the eastern Pacific Ocean. American forces have carried out such strikes regularly since last September under what Washington describes as ongoing counternarcotics efforts.
With Wednesday’s action included, US authorities have acknowledged at least 69 operations of this type, resulting in at least 205 deaths, according to compiled figures.
