Israeli Forces Strike Southern Lebanon Despite US-Brokered Deal
(MENAFN) Israeli forces launched artillery attacks and carried out explosions across several parts of southern Lebanon overnight and early Thursday, despite a US-mediated agreement intended to end hostilities and address Hezbollah’s weapons.
Artillery fire during the night and early morning hit Wadi al-Hujeir and Wadi al-Saluki, while explosions were reported in Mansouri in the Tyre district.
Israeli aircraft also conducted a strike against Mansouri as an explosion was reported in the town.
Further artillery fire was directed at areas on the outskirts of Zawtar al-Sharqiyah in the Nabatieh district, toward Mayfadoun.
Israeli forces also carried out what was described as a “very large” explosion in Bani Hayyan, located in the Marjayoun district.
The Lebanese army said Wednesday that Israel had breached the agreement around 7,700 times since it was signed in June. The reported violations included firing in the vicinity of Lebanese military personnel and patrols.
Israel continues to maintain control over parts of southern Lebanon, including areas it has occupied for decades as well as territory seized during the 2023-2024 conflict. During the current confrontation, Israeli forces have also pushed more than 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) into Lebanese territory.
