UAE Vehicle Plate Demand Gains Momentum as Rare Numbers Attract Growing Interest
(MENAFN- Dubi cars) Demand for vehicle number plates is gaining momentum across the UAE, with ad views on dubizzle increasing by 13.4% month-on-month, according to the platform’s latest monthly market data.
The data, which tracks ad-view activity across vehicle plates listed on dubizzle in all seven emirates, reveals a market shaped by two distinct trends: high-volume interest in more widely available 4- and 5-digit plates, alongside rapidly growing attention towards rarer 2- and 3-digit numbers.
Dubai continues to account for the strongest overall volume of interest, with 5-digit plates recording a 13% month-on-month increase in views, while 4-digit plates grew by 10%. At the same time, interest in Dubai’s 3-digit plates rose by 33%, highlighting growing attention towards more distinctive numbers.
Abu Dhabi presented an even sharper shift towards rarity. While 5-digit plates remained the most viewed category, their views declined by 6.6% month-on-month. In contrast, 2-digit plate views surged by 86%, while 3-digit plates increased by 41%.
Beyond the two largest markets, several Northern Emirates also recorded notable growth. Fujairah’s 5-digit plate views increased by 87%, Ras Al Khaimah’s 4-digit views rose by 50%, and Sharjah recorded a 47% increase in views for 4-digit plates.
A Market Where Rarity Drives Attention
The latest figures highlight the different ways consumers engage with vehicle plates in the UAE.
For everyday motorists, 4- and 5-digit plates continue to generate the greatest volume of interest. However, the strongest rates of growth are increasingly being seen among shorter-digit plates, where scarcity and distinctiveness can make individual numbers particularly sought after.
Dubai’s 33% increase in views for 3-digit plates and Abu Dhabi’s 86% growth for 2-digit
plates point to growing consumer attention towards rare number combinations.
This trend reflects the unique position vehicle plates hold in the UAE. Beyond their practical role as vehicle identifiers, distinctive numbers can carry personal, cultural and social significance, while particularly rare combinations can command substantial interest in the secondary market.
Sherif Magdy, Director of Sales, dubizzle Cars commented on these findings saying: “Vehicle plates occupy a unique position in the UAE’s automotive culture. Beyond their practical purpose, distinctive numbers can carry a strong sense of identity, prestige and personal significance. Our latest data shows that this appeal is translating into growing interest in some of the market’s rarest numbers, with 2- and 3-digit plates recording some of the strongest month-on-month growth across several emirates. It is a clear indication that, when it comes to vehicle plates, rarity continues to command attention.”
Where Demand Is GrowingThe Growing Appeal of Rare Numbers
The latest data suggests that the UAE’s vehicle plate market is becoming increasingly segmented by both volume and rarity.
While 4- and 5-digit plates continue to attract broad consumer interest, the faster growth seen in shorter-digit categories indicates that rare numbers are gaining visibility among users browsing the market.
For sellers, the trend highlights the importance of the number itself as a key differentiating factor. For prospective buyers, it provides a snapshot of which plate categories are currently attracting the greatest attention across the UAE.
Ultimately, the data reflects the distinctive role number plates play within the country's automotive culture, combining utility with personal expression, collectability and, in some cases, significant perceived value.
