Israeli Forces Detain Palestinians, Journalists in West Bank Raids

(MENAFN) Israeli forces detained 33 Palestinians, including two journalists, two minors and several former prisoners, during military raids across the occupied West Bank on Thursday, according to reports.

The arrests followed searches of numerous Palestinian homes, with Israeli forces reportedly causing damage to belongings inside some properties. The operations took place mainly in the provinces of Nablus, Bethlehem, Hebron, Jenin, Tubas and Tulkarem.

Nablus recorded the highest number of arrests with 17 Palestinians detained, followed by seven in Bethlehem, three in Hebron, one in Jenin, two in Tubas and three in Tulkarem.

The two journalists taken into custody were identified as Sabri Mousa Jibril and Muath Ammarna, both from Bethlehem.

In Jenin, an Israeli special forces unit reportedly entered the area near the Interior Ministry roundabout before detaining a former prisoner.

Several other former prisoners were also among those arrested, along with minors. One of the former detainees had reportedly been released only days before being taken into custody again.

The Palestinian group described the latest wave of arrests, house searches and property damage as part of an “ongoing policy of intimidation and arrests against Palestinians,” particularly highlighting the detention of journalists, children and former prisoners.

Arrest operations have continued throughout the occupied West Bank as Israeli military activity has intensified since the war in Gaza began on Oct. 7, 2023. Raids and detentions have been accompanied by increased attacks by settlers and the demolition of Palestinian homes and other structures.

More than 9,400 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli prisons, including 370 children and 92 women, according to Palestinian rights organizations. Reports have also raised concerns over alleged torture and inadequate medical care affecting some detainees.
