Jordan Sends 13Th Humanitarian Aid Convoy To Lebanon

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN - The Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) said on Thursday it had sent its 13th humanitarian aid convoy to Lebanon, amid the country's worsening humanitarian crisis.

JHCO said in a statement that the convoy was dispatched in cooperation with the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), to help meet humanitarian needs in areas affected [by Israeli war on Lebanon].

The 14-truck convoy carries medical supplies and equipment, as well as personal hygiene kits, JHCO said, adding that the relief assistance was prepared based on assessments of needs on the ground, with a focus on supporting the health sector and providing essential supplies to the most vulnerable groups.

JHCO said it continues to coordinate with international partners to direct humanitarian assistance toward priority sectors and ensure that aid reaches those most in need.

Jordan's humanitarian arm also expressed appreciation to the Syrian authorities for their cooperation and for facilitating the convoy's passage, helping ensure that the assistance reaches beneficiary organizations and communities.

The latest convoy is part of Jordan's ongoing humanitarian efforts to support neighboring and brotherly countries affected by conflict and crises, the statement said.

Since the beginning of the crisis, Jordan has sent 12 previous convoys to Lebanon, comprising 239 trucks carrying 2,756 tonnes of various relief supplies, according to the organisation.

The United Nations has significantly increased its humanitarian funding appeal for Lebanon, warning that the country's humanitarian crisis has become“severe and deteriorating” after four months of Israeli war on the country's south.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) initially appealed in June for nearly $640 million to support relief efforts over a six-month period. However, only $185 million has been received so far, prompting the agency to request an additional $331 million to meet growing humanitarian needs.

According to Lebanon's Ministry of Public Health, Israeli attacks have killed 3,526 people and wounded 10,733 others since March 2, when Israel launched its campaign against Iran-backed Hizbollah in Lebanon.
