Nearly Half of Belgians Wary of Tech at Events Over Privacy Fears
(MENAFN) Roughly half of Belgians remain skeptical about the growing use of technology at events, driven largely by worries over privacy and data sharing, according to survey findings from the Event Confederation cited by a news agency on Wednesday.
The poll, which surveyed 1,000 Belgians, revealed that only half of participants believe digital tools actually make events run more smoothly or efficiently, according to the organization, which serves as the umbrella body for Belgium's events industry.
Even as event organizers have poured substantial investment into digitalization in recent years, many attendees continue to resist adopting technologies such as QR codes for food and beverage orders or dedicated mobile apps offering practical event information.
Three-quarters of those surveyed said they favor "simple events without too much technology," while just a quarter said tech enhances their experience more than face-to-face interaction does.
Privacy concerns loom large as well. More than half of respondents reported feeling uneasy about their personal privacy and said they'd rather be cautious about handing over personal data at events.
Artificial intelligence drew similar unease. Roughly 70% of those polled in the Flanders and Wallonia regions said they view AI technologies with suspicion, compared with 55% of respondents in Brussels.
