Nepal Floods Death Toll Hits 1,412
(MENAFN) Authorities in Nepal have recovered 1,369 bodies as of Wednesday in the aftermath of catastrophic floods and mudslides that devastated the Nepal-China border region late last month, according to official statistics released by the government.
The combined death toll across both countries now stands at 1,412, while more than 5,651 people remain unaccounted for.
Among those still missing, 848 are foreign nationals, based on figures compiled jointly by Nepal and China.
Separately, Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority reported that a total of 5,132 people, including 587 foreigners, are missing within the country.
More than 13,646 people have been pulled to safety since the disaster struck, with rescue operations continuing as recently as this past weekend.
To support the ongoing search and recovery effort, more than 21,100 security personnel have been mobilized across the affected region.
Across the border in China's southwestern Xizang Autonomous Region, also known as Tibet, massive mudslides have claimed 43 lives, with 519 people — including 261 foreign nationals — still listed as missing.
