More Rain Likely In South Bengal, Says Weather Department

(MENAFN- IANS) Kolkata, Sep 10 (IANS) The Regional Meteorological Centre in Kolkata on Thursday said there was a possibility of a new low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, which is likely to bring light to moderate rain in south Bengal districts in the next three days.

According to a Met Department official, heavy rain may occur in some western districts and coastal areas of South 24 Parganas district. There is also a possibility of scattered heavy rain in the districts of south Bengal along with thunderstorms.

Besides, there is a slight chance of scattered rain with thunderstorms in north Bengal. Heavy rain will again occur in north Bengal from Friday.

"Today, there is a possibility of heavy rain in East Midnapore, West Midnapore and South 24 Parganas districts. There will be a yellow warning for heavy rain in these three districts. Scattered thunderstorms may occur in all the remaining districts. Along with this, gusty winds may blow at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour. There is no such warning of heavy rain elsewhere," said the official.

On Friday, there will be a yellow warning of heavy rain in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Kalimpong districts. On Saturday, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar and Jalpaiguri; all the above five districts will remain under a yellow warning of heavy rain, the Met Department official said.

On Sunday, a yellow warning of heavy rain has been issued in Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri districts. The rain will decrease again in North Bengal from Monday.

Meanwhile, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunderstorms in Kolkata, accompanied by gusty winds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour. If there is no rainfall, humidity-related discomfort may prevail. The rain will decrease from Sunday, while humidity-related discomfort and temperature will increase slightly.

On Wednesday, the maximum temperature in Kolkata and its surrounding areas was 32.02 degrees Celsius, which is 0.03 degrees below normal. The minimum temperature was 25.09 degrees Celsius, which is 0.05 degrees below normal. The relative humidity was a maximum of 95 and a minimum of 68 per cent.
