Iranian Strikes Damage Multiple US Aircraft at Jordan Air Base
(MENAFN) Multiple US military aircraft sustained damage in Iranian strikes launched overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, local time, targeting Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, media reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.
According to those sources, roughly eight F-15 fighter jets suffered minor damage but were later returned to service. An A-10 Thunderbolt — commonly known as the Warthog — was also struck and reportedly lost a wing in the attack.
No US fatalities have been reported in connection with the strikes on the Jordan base.
The attack followed a US strike Tuesday on five Iranian tankers, carried out in retaliation for Iran's targeting of a US Navy vessel. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps subsequently said it had launched attacks on eight tankers, two warships, and the US base in Jordan.
Media additionally reported that US forces stationed in Jordan fired more than 30 Patriot missiles in defense against the incoming Iranian attacks.
The exchange comes amid growing concern among US officials over a rapidly dwindling supply of Patriot missiles and declining stockpiles of other precision-guided munitions.
