V&A Shuts 3 London Sites Amid Staff Strike Over Pay
These employees are organized under the heritage division of the Prospect Union and the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS). The strike resulted in the closure of the V&A East Museum, the East Storehouse, and the Young V&A, which is the children's museum in Bethnal Green.
Staff members picketed outside all three closed locations during the strike, displaying signs that called for fair wages and access to water.“The decision to close three V&A sites underlines the point we have been making; our members are critical to the operation of the museum,” said Paula Lamont, National Secretary for heritage at Prospect, in a statement provided to Hyperallergic. Lamont also indicated that Prospect is prepared to initiate additional strikes, potentially including one at the V&A's flagship location in South Kensington, if required.
