UN Warns Of Critical Supply Shortages In Gaza Due To Funding Gaps, Entry Restrictions
New York, Sept. 9 (Petra) -- UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric warned on Wednesday that stockpiles of essential supplies in Gaza remain critically insufficient, driven by severe funding shortfalls and continued stringent restrictions on the ability of UN partners to replenish reserves.
Citing UN humanitarian partners during a press briefing, Dujarric stated that Israeli airstrikes and attacks continue to strike populated areas, placing civilians at grave risk and causing widespread property damage.
He highlighted an Israeli airstrike on Tuesday that hit a building in Bureij, near Deir al-Balah, in proximity to two UN-run schools serving as temporary shelters for displaced persons, as well as a UN-backed bakery, resulting in approximately 100 families losing their shelters and belongings.
Dujarric reaffirmed the imperative that civilians and civilian infrastructure including humanitarian shelters and facilities must be protected at all times.
