Russian Agent Detained For Helping Direct Strikes On Kharkiv

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) According to Ukrinform, the SSU reported this.

According to the SSU, the suspect is a local man eligible for military service who, while evading mobilization, began directing Russian strikes on the city at the behest of Russia.

It was established that the suspect contacted Russian intelligence services through Telegram channels and offered to assist them in the war against Ukraine.

Following instructions from his Russian handlers, he gathered information about the locations of Ukrainian Defense Forces units that Russian forces were preparing to target in combined attacks, including with guided aerial bombs and attack drones.

The Russians were particularly interested in the coordinates of reserve command posts, concentrations of military vehicles, and logistics warehouses belonging to Ukraine's defense forces in Kharkiv.

To gather intelligence, the suspect discreetly sought information from his wife and acquaintances, as he rarely left his home himself. He then marked the locations of Ukrainian facilities on Google Maps, adding comments for subsequent reports to his Russian handlers.

SSU officers documented the informant's criminal activities in stages before detaining him at his home.

During a search of the suspect's residence, officers found three smartphones, which he regularly switched to maintain covert communications with Russian intelligence services.

SSU investigators notified him that he was suspected of violating Part 2 of Article 114-2 of Ukraine's Criminal Code – the unauthorized dissemination of information about the movement or deployment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or other military formations established under Ukrainian law, committed under martial law.

The suspect is being held in custody. He faces up to eight years in prison.

As reported by Ukrinform, the SSU previously detained a Russian agent who directed strikes on Ukrainian Defense Forces facilities in Sloviansk.
