Drones Strike Russia's Largest Gas Production Complex For First Time, 3,000 Km From Ukraine, Media Reports

Dmitry Artyukhov, governor of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, stated that an industrial facility in Novy Urengoy was struck. According to him,“a fire broke out as a result of falling UAV debris,” and no one was injured. The extent of the damage is still being assessed.

Later, Artem Zhoga, the Russian President's Plenipotentiary Representative in the Ural Federal District, stated that Ukrainian Armed Forces drones had attacked the Arctic part of the Ural Federal District (UrFD) for the first time: a fire broke out at a fuel and energy complex facility in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, and the facility's personnel“were evacuated in a timely manner.”

According to Ukrainian monitoring Telegram channels, the facility in question is the Novy Urengoy Condensate Processing Plant, which is part of Gazprom and has a capacity of 19.5 million metric tons per year.

According to the Russian Ministry of Energy, the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug is Russia's largest hydrocarbon resource base, accounting for about 57% of the country's natural gas reserves and over 13% of its oil reserves. This region accounts for about 80% of natural gas production. According to Rosstat data, in 2025, Russia produced 662.652 billion cubic meters of natural gas, including 527.441 billion cubic meters in the Ural Federal District, primarily in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
