The Wa Transforms WWII Bunkers Into Childlike Drawings

(MENAFN- USA Art News) Artist The Wa is transforming thousands of World War II bunkers and other coastal structures into vibrant, childlike drawings. The project, titled“A Kid Could Do It,” uses saturated colors and blocky shapes to depict windows, doors, and flowers on the otherwise stark concrete structures.

These fortifications, including battery platforms, are largely found along European coastlines. Many are part of the Atlantic Wall, an extensive defensive network built by Nazi forces between 1942 and 1944 in anticipation of Allied attacks. Although no official count exists, these structures likely number in the tens of thousands.

The title“A Kid Could Do It” playfully references a common dismissive remark heard by viewers of abstract art. The Wa subverts this sentiment by adopting what he describes as“one simple rule: the unfiltered creative logic of a child.” This approach was also applied to a large-scale rendition on an empty house in Stuttgart as part of the PFFFestival 2026.
