Erdogan Hails Volleyball Champions, Eyes 2028 Olympic Gold
(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed Türkiye's women's national volleyball team — fresh off its European Championship triumph — along with other medal-winning national athletes, at the presidential complex in Ankara on Tuesday.
Erdogan offered congratulations to the squad for capturing the 2026 CEV European Championship for the second title in a row, while also recognizing Turkish volleyball athletes who delivered strong performances in other international tournaments.
"We are very pleased to see the results of the enormous investments we have made in sports, particularly volleyball," he said.
Looking ahead to the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics — for which Türkiye has already clinched a qualifying spot — Erdogan said he had "no doubt" the team was capable of claiming gold there as well.
"We believe, we trust ourselves. God willing, we will succeed," he added.
