North Macedonia Ready To Share EU Accession Experience With Ukraine - Minister

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Timcho Mucunski, North Macedonia's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, made these remarks in an interview with Ukrinform

First and foremost, he expressed his conviction that EU accession should not be accompanied by intimidation or the practice of unilateral concessions.

“Since our country gained independence [here], there has never been any doubt that we were and remain unwavering in our aspirations to build a modern Euro-Atlantic society. In this regard, most often at the request of external forces, we have made various concessions,” Mucunski noted.

For instance, North Macedonia changed its country's name and flag and amended its Constitution several times.

“We will continue to move steadfastly toward full membership, as we believe we deserve it. At the same time, we will not allow intimidation and the practice of bilateral agreements to continue during the EU accession process,” added Mucunski, referring to Bulgaria's demands that North Macedonia recognize the Bulgarian national minority at the constitutional level.

The minister noted that Ukraine and North Macedonia are united by a shared aspiration to join the EU.

He added that during its time as a candidate country, Skopje has achieved truly“excellent results in implementing European reforms,” which it is ready to share with Ukraine.

During his visit to Kyiv, Mucunski held talks with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.“We discussed the exchange of experience gained in various fields, particularly in agriculture-for example, regarding the harmonization of national legislation with that of the European Union. Thus, our bilateral discussions focus on joint work and joint efforts toward the process of both our countries' accession to the EU,” the North Macedonian minister emphasized.

As reported by Ukrinform, last year Ukraine and the Republic of North Macedonia signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of European integration.
