Harry, Meghan React to Letter Clarifying Royal Status
(MENAFN) Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly expressed surprise over a new letter from King Charles clarifying that they remain non-working members of the British Royal Family.
The couple "were a little surprised not to have been told about this in advance," according to a statement from their spokesperson.
However, palace sources said the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had been informed about the letter before it was publicly released. The document was sent on Monday afternoon on behalf of King Charles.
The letter, issued by the lord chamberlain, a senior palace official, confirms that Harry and Meghan will continue to be excluded from using the titles "His and Her Royal Highness" and will remain "private citizens."
Copies were reportedly distributed to Harry’s team, government departments, military officials, lord lieutenants and other government personnel who are involved in royal visits and official engagements.
The development follows the couple’s return to the UK with their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, on Aug. 26. Their visit comes six years after Harry and Meghan stepped back from their positions as senior working members of the Royal Family and moved to California to begin a new life.
