UK Unveils USD135M Air Defense Package for Ukraine Ahead of Winter
(MENAFN) Britain announced a fresh air defense package Tuesday, including Patriot missiles, aimed at bolstering Ukraine's ability to fend off Russian attacks as winter approaches.
The Defense Ministry said in a statement that the UK will provide air defense interceptors, large-caliber artillery rounds and drones "as part of Britain's commitment to help Ukraine defend its freedom and sovereignty."
Valued at £100 million ($135 million) and channeled through a contribution to NATO's Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative, the package follows a visit to Kyiv last month by Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Defense Secretary Wes Streeting.
"Britain's commitment to provide over 120,000 drones to Ukraine this year continues, with 25,000 delivered to date, a figure set to ramp up ahead of the winter," the ministry said.
Officials noted the drone shipments include interceptors designed to shoot down Russian drones, alongside reconnaissance drones.
"We will stand shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine until they win. Ukraine's frontline is the frontline for freedom everywhere and our support will not waver," Streeting said in the statement.
