Qatar Press Centre, Gulf And Arabian Peninsula Studies Unit Sign Mou

Doha, Qatar: The Qatar Press Centre has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Gulf and Arabian Peninsula Studies Unit at the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies to strengthen cooperation in journalism, media and research, with a focus on joint training programmes, events, studies and publications.

The MoU was signed by Director-General of the Qatar Press Centre Sadiq Mohammed Al Amari, and Head of the Gulf and Arabian Peninsula Studies Unit, at the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies Dr. Haider Saeed.

The agreement provides a framework for combining journalistic expertise with academic and research capabilities, while promoting the exchange of knowledge and experience and supporting specialised studies on Gulf affairs.

Al Amari described the MoU as an important step towards strengthening institutional cooperation in the media, journalism and research fields and making use of the expertise and resources available to both sides.

He said the agreement opens broad avenues for preparing studies and analytical papers on media and journalism issues of mutual interest, as well as exchanging experts, consultants and researchers. It will also facilitate the use of databases, archival materials, documents, references, academic studies and publications held by the two institutions.

Al Amari stressed the importance of building effective partnerships with research and academic institutions, particularly as rapid developments in the media sector are creating a growing need to strengthen professional knowledge and develop the skills of journalists and media professionals.

He added that cooperation will extend beyond research to include joint seminars, workshops, forums, conferences and lectures, as well as collaborative initiatives, particularly in the field of journalism training.

Dr. Haider Saeed affirmed the Gulf and Arabian Peninsula Studies Unit's commitment to expanding cooperation with Gulf institutions and organisations concerned with Gulf studies, both inside and outside Qatar.

He said the signing of the MoU with the Qatar Press Centre is part of this broader approach, noting that the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies has been following the activities of the Qatar Press Centre and its role in supporting the media and journalism sectors.

Discussions between the two sides, he added, identified wide-ranging opportunities for cooperation, particularly in Gulf media and journalism, joint seminars and events, training, and the preparation of studies and publications of mutual interest.

Saeed stressed that the MoU should not remain merely a written agreement or a signing occasion, but should instead be translated into tangible programmes and projects.

He said the two sides agreed to hold a working meeting following the signing to discuss implementation mechanisms and identify a number of initiatives and activities that could be launched, including seminars, training programmes, publications and joint projects.
