Ashghal Completes Final Sustainability Audit For QU College Of Medicine And Health Sciences Building

Doha, Qatar: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has completed the final audit to verify compliance with the design requirements of the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) for the project to construct the College of Medicine and Health Sciences building at Qatar University.

The audit is part of Ashghal's commitment to applying the highest sustainability standards across its building and educational facility projects.

The project is targeting a 4-star rating under the GSAS Design & Build certification, exceeding its initial target of 3 stars and reflecting an advanced level of sustainability standards incorporated into the building's design and construction.

The final audit included a technical site inspection conducted by a team from Ashghal and the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (GORD), together with the project's consultant and main contractor. The inspection aimed to verify the implementation of sustainability requirements and standards on site and assess the compliance of the completed works with GSAS certification requirements.

The targeted rating is being achieved through the implementation of an integrated range of sustainability solutions and standards, including improving energy and water efficiency, selecting sustainable materials and products, reducing the building's environmental impact, enhancing indoor environmental quality, and improving operational and management efficiency.

These measures contribute to providing a higher-quality, healthier and more comfortable educational environment for users, while reducing resource and energy consumption and lowering long-term operation and maintenance costs.

They also help reduce carbon emissions and promote more efficient use of resources.

The sustainability standards applied to the project also contribute to enhancing the building's performance throughout its life cycle through design and operational solutions that improve the efficiency of air-conditioning, lighting and water systems, as well as indoor air quality, lighting conditions and thermal comfort. This helps provide a suitable environment for students, faculty members, staff and visitors.
