Trump Claims US Blockade Puts Heavy Pressure on Iran
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump says Iran has been "punished greatly" by the ongoing US naval blockade, describing the operation as highly effective.
"Iran will not have a nuclear weapon. And they've been punished greatly," Trump said during the Steel Across America event outside the White House. The event features a 21-foot steel beam recovered from the South Tower of the World Trade Center ahead of the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.
Trump praises the US military’s operations against Iran, saying: "The job they do is unbelievable."
He also highlights the impact of the naval blockade, saying: "The blockade has been so powerful, so effective. Nobody thought it could go so well," he added.
The comments come after Iran and the US reach a memorandum of understanding in June following mediation efforts by Pakistan and Qatar. The agreement establishes a framework for ending hostilities and continuing negotiations between the two sides.
Tehran has accused Washington of failing to honor its commitments under the agreement and violating the memorandum. Iranian officials have also repeatedly called for an end to US military operations and the naval blockade, saying these steps are necessary to reduce tensions.
