Russia Rejects Allegations Over Leipzig Airport Drone Incident
(MENAFN) Russia has rejected accusations that it was involved in a recent drone incident at Leipzig Airport, with its ambassador to Germany describing the episode as “a deliberate provocation” and saying no evidence has been provided to support the claims.
“We regard what happened in Leipzig as a targeted provocation. No evidence has been presented to substantiate the accusations against Russia,” Nechaev said.
The Russian envoy also criticized Germany’s response to the incident, describing the measures imposed on Moscow as “extremely harsh” and saying they reflected an “unprecedented deterioration” in relations between the two countries.
“Trust has been undermined,” he said, arguing that Moscow considers Berlin’s actions a major political error that “will not remain without a response.”
German authorities have accused Russia of being behind an attempted drone attack at Leipzig Airport on Aug. 4, saying investigations by domestic security agencies and European partners uncovered indications of Russian involvement. Moscow has repeatedly denied the allegations.
Following the accusations, Germany announced plans to shut Russia’s Consulate General in Bonn as well as the Russian House cultural center in Berlin. Russia responded with similar measures, closing Germany’s consulate and Goethe Institut in St. Petersburg.
