Sybiha Calls For Tighter Controls On Foreign Components Entering Russia

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Ukraine's top diplomat wrote this in a post on X, according to Ukrinform.

“Inside the weapons Russia uses to attack us, we find foreign-made components and technologies. Something is fundamentally wrong when technologies developed in countries that stand for peace and security ultimately end up in Russian missiles launched at Ukrainian homes,” Sybiha said, describing Russia's latest massive combined attack involving ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as jet-powered drones.

He explained that this could not be regarded as an unfortunate side effect of global trade.

“Russia is deliberately seeking ways to circumvent sanctions, creating procurement networks, using intermediaries and third countries, and obtaining critical components necessary to keep its war machine functioning,” the minister said.

Sybiha stressed that every such component reaching Russia represents another opportunity for Moscow to produce more missiles. Every loophole left open gives Russia's military-industrial sector greater room to operate. Therefore, closing these loopholes is not a technical matter of sanctions compliance.“It is a matter of saving lives.”

“We need significantly tougher export-control measures, more effective enforcement, and real consequences for those helping Russia circumvent restrictions. Russia's access to critical technologies must be blocked at every stage of the supply chain,” the chief diplomat urged.

He added that sanctions must target the entire ecosystem behind the production and procurement of Russian weapons. It is not enough to impose sanctions on a missile after it has been built or on a plant after it has expanded production.

“We must dismantle the networks that make this production possible.... We know how these supply chains operate. We know that Russia exploits gaps. Now we must close them - systematically and decisively,” Sybiha concluded.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, Russia, despite sanctions, continues to receive foreign electronic components for the production of sophisticated weapons systems. A total of 96 such components were identified in a downed Geran-4 drone in the Kyiv region, while 147 were found in an Iskander-M missile.
