Agro Exports Could Rise To 2 Million Tons In September Under Favorable Conditions - Minister

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) As reported by Ukrinform, citing the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotskyi emphasized this during an online address to the Lviv Region Farmers' Forum.

“In August, Ukraine exported about one-third of its potential monthly agricultural-export volume - 1.7 million tons in September, under favorable conditions, exports could rise to approximately 2 million tons per month, which would amount to about 40% of the required volume. If the situation improves, the maximum figure could potentially reach 2.5 million tons,” Vysotskyi said.

In his view, alternative routes will not be able to handle the entire volume. The Ministry of Agrarian Policy is working with international partners, including those from Romania and Poland, to increase export volumes.

The minister also addressed issues related to crop storage and access to financing.

As Vysotskyi recalled, a number of humanitarian programs are already being implemented in Ukraine, including programs providing grain bags. A mechanism for partially compensating their cost is currently being developed.

In addition, the necessary regulatory framework is in place to allow banks to defer or extend the loan obligations of enterprises.

“The Ministry of Agrarian Policy is working with banks to ensure that these mechanisms are applied more actively in practice. It is also important to collect specific cases in which enterprises are unjustifiably refused loan extensions despite the existence of the relevant legal mechanisms,” the minister noted.

He urged agricultural businesses to submit specific cases of problematic situations to the ministry. According to him, this would make it possible to address them promptly with the relevant government institutions and banks.

Vysotskyi also addressed support for livestock farming.

“For an industry that requires substantial and long-term investment, separate government-support mechanisms should be in place,” he said.

As reported, as of September 8, farmers in all regions of Ukraine had harvested 6.85 million hectares, or 59% of the projected area; wheat harvesting is nearly complete.
