Russian Drone Strike Damages TV Channel Building in Kyiv, Injures Five
(MENAFN) A Russian drone attack on Kyiv during daylight hours damaged a television channel building and left at least five people injured, Ukrainian authorities said Tuesday.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the strike partially destroyed the headquarters of My-Ukraina, a broadcaster that participates in the country’s United News telethon.
Emergency teams were deployed to the site, where personnel from the State Emergency Service managed to put out a fire caused by the attack, Zelenskyy said.
“As of now, five people have been reported injured. Unfortunately, that number may still rise,” Zelenskyy said, adding: “Not a single strike against Ukraine and Ukrainians – against life itself – can be left unpunished. Russia must be stopped, and this is possible only through joint efforts.”
The attack followed overnight Russian drone strikes on Kyiv that reportedly killed at least three people and injured 19 others.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the overnight attacks damaged sites across several districts of the capital, including Darnytskyi, Holosiivskyi, Podilskyi, Shevchenkivskyi and Solomianskyi. Damage was also reported in the wider Kyiv region, including Boryspil and Fastiv.
Russian attacks were also reported in other parts of Ukraine, including Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Odesa and Kharkiv.
Ukraine’s Air Force said its air defenses intercepted 142 of 166 drones launched by Russia overnight, along with 33 missiles.
Russia’s Defense Ministry, meanwhile, said its forces had carried out overnight strikes against what it described as "Ukrainian military-industrial facilities, logistics and warehouse centers, and military installations" in Kyiv and the surrounding region, as well as other locations across Ukraine.
The competing claims could not be independently verified amid the continuing conflict.
The attacks came as fighting continued despite a temporary three-day halt to strikes targeting Moscow and Kyiv that was due to end Monday evening. The pause coincided with visits by US envoys to the capitals of both countries as part of efforts to advance peace negotiations.
In recent months, Russia and Ukraine have increasingly attacked one another’s logistics hubs, ports and energy infrastructure.
Both governments deny intentionally striking civilian facilities, maintaining that their military operations are directed toward military targets or infrastructure connected to military activities.
