Israeli Forces Raid Village in Syria’s Quneitra Amid Rising Tensions
(MENAFN) Israeli forces carried out a new raid in the village of Breqa in Syria’s southern Quneitra province on Tuesday, in another incursion into Syrian territory.
During the operation, Israeli troops entered a home and conducted a search, according to reports.
The latest incident comes amid a series of Israeli military operations and artillery attacks reported across Quneitra in recent days.
On Sunday, Israeli forces reportedly shelled the outskirts of Eastern Samadaniya village in central Quneitra. A day earlier, six artillery rounds were fired toward the outskirts of Al-Rafid in southern Quneitra.
Five Israeli military vehicles also entered the area surrounding the town before later withdrawing. No arrests were reported during the operation.
Breqa has also been targeted by Israeli forces several times in recent months. During a previous raid on July 31, three Israeli military vehicles entered the village, established a temporary checkpoint and searched people passing through the area, without making any arrests.
Southern Syria has experienced frequent Israeli incursions and attacks, particularly in Quneitra and Daraa provinces. These operations have included searches of homes, arrests, raids and the establishment of military checkpoints.
Israel has controlled most of Syria’s Golan Heights since 1967. Following the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s government on Dec. 8, 2024, Israel declared the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement no longer effective and moved into the Syrian buffer zone and other locations, including the Syrian side of Mount Hermon, also known as Jabal al-Sheikh.
On July 26, Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa said Damascus was working with other countries toward a security agreement with Israel. He said reaching such an agreement could open the way toward broader peace while maintaining Syria’s claim to the occupied Golan Heights.
