Zelensky Expects To Meet With Trump In Late September

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) He made the statement while speaking to journalists and commenting on the results of the visit to Kyiv by U.S. negotiators, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"We thank the American side, first of all, for unblocking the negotiations between us – between Ukrainians and Russians. This visit is confirmation of that. Second, we had a very difficult night today, with many people injured and also fatalities. My sincere condolences to their families and loved ones. We discussed the shortages we are facing, which are being felt, including the winter package and anti-ballistic missiles," Zelensky said.

He stressed that during the massive Russian attack last night, Ukrainian defenders managed to destroy around 90% of the enemy targets. However, Ukraine still needs anti-ballistic missiles to counter the Russian threat.

"We are preparing our Frejya program. We very much hope that the Americans will support this program as well. Nevertheless, together with the Europeans, we will definitely achieve the desired result. Until that result is achieved, we need ballistic missile packages from the Americans. They heard in detail what we need and when we need it. I am counting on a meeting with President Trump in late September, where we will raise this issue, and, God willing, there will be a result," Zelensky said.

He added that he could not disclose all the details, but the parties are currently moving toward a trilateral meeting format.

"We discussed the timing of the next meeting in sufficient detail. We are planning to meet with the Europeans and Americans at the advisors' level in the near future. I am also planning to meet with President Trump," Zelensky said.

According to Zelensky, he hopes Trump will be able to hold the meeting in September.

After meeting with Trump, Ukraine will work on preparing negotiations in a trilateral format, Zelensky said.

"And then we will all work to prepare for and bring closer a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, Russia and the United States. If all sides agree, we also want to hold it this fall. If it happens in September, that would be great. The sooner, the better," he said.

On Sunday, September 6, the Ukrainian leader met in Kyiv with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. It was their first visit to Ukraine since Donald Trump's second presidential term began.

In the early hours of September 8, Russia launched another combined attack on the capital, with damage and fires reported in at least five districts. President Volodymyr Zelensky said that despite strong results in intercepting cruise missiles, Ukraine needs additional interceptor missiles to counter ballistic attacks, and announced upcoming meetings with partners on weapons supplies.
