Foreign Components Manufactured In 2025-2026 Found In Russian Geran Drones, Iskander Missiles Vlasiuk


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Vladyslav Vlasiuk, the President's Commissioner for Sanctions Policy, said this in a comment to Ukrinform.

"More strikes, Russian ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones. Their electronic supply chain remains international, and components are still accessible. For example, 96 foreign components were identified in a Geran-4 drone shot down in the Kyiv region on August 12, 2026," he said.

According to the commissioner, these include components manufactured in the United States, China, Taiwan, Germany, Switzerland and Canada by companies including Texas Instruments, Amphenol, Diodes Incorporated, Kyocera AVX, Kemet, ON Semiconductor and Vishay Intertechnology. Seven of the components were manufactured in 2026 and another three in 2025.

"In the Iskander-M missile found at the site of a strike in the Kyiv region in early July, the picture is even broader. A total of 147 foreign-made components were identified. They came from the United States, Belarus, Switzerland, Germany, China and Japan. The manufacturers include Texas Instruments, Analog Devices, Maxim Integrated, Cypress, STMicroelectronics, Macronix, Integrated Silicon Solution, MaxLinear and others. At least 21 components were manufactured in 2025, and there are also components from 2026," he said.

At the same time, Vlasiuk said an examination of the Zarya-61 onboard computer in a Kinzhal missile showed that in 2023 Russia had been replacing U.S.-made Texas Instruments processors with domestically produced chips.

"But in a newer Zarya-61 unit recovered from a missile shot down in May this year, that replacement is no longer there. American processors are being used again. The examination directly indicates that the Russian substitutes did not deliver the required results," he said.

Vlasiuk also highlighted the composition of the computer. A circuit board assembled in May 2025 contains components manufactured in different years, from 2021 to 2024. Among them are a U.S.-made Texas Instruments DSP processor and memory manufactured by IDT, a company now owned by Japan's Renesas. Another board contains a Texas Instruments processor marked with the year 1986 and AMD chips manufactured in 1996.

According to him, this indicates that Russia may use older foreign electronics if they remain suitable for a particular weapons system, while simultaneously incorporating newer components.

"Therefore, the problem for Russia is not a complete lack of domestic electronic components. The same Iskander-M contains 36 Russian-made components and 11 from Belarus. But this is not enough for Russia's sophisticated weapons systems. It has to combine its domestic component base with foreign-made components, sourcing them through different markets and supply chains. Every manufacturer, law enforcement agency and export-control authority has enough information to stop such supplies to Russia," Vlasiuk added.
