Narcolepsy market to reach $7.8 billion across 7MM by 2035, forecasts GlobalData

(MENAFN- Cision) The narcolepsy market across the seven major markets (7MM*) is forecast to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.5%, from $4.6 billion in 2025 to $7.8 billion in 2035, according to GlobalData, a leading intelligence and productivity platform.
GlobalData’s latest report“ “Narcolepsy: Seven-Market Drug Forecast and Market Analysis 2025-35” reveals that narcolepsy market growth will be driven by the launch of new pipeline products, including the entry of orexin agonists.
The narcolepsy therapeutic market has entered an exciting phase with the anticipated launch of orexin agonists. In August 2026, Take’a’s Orzeyful (oveporexton) received regulatory approval for the treatment of patients with narcolepsy type 1 (NT1) in the US and Japan, marking it as the first-in-class orexin 2 receptor agonist. During the forecast period, three additional orexin agonists are anticipated to launch: Synchronicity Pharma/Alke’mes’ alixorexton, Centessa Pharmaceuticals/ Eli’Lilly’s cleminorexton, an’ Takeda’s TAK-360.
Christie Wong, Managing Neurology Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “These drugs are expected to offer a more holistic treatment for NT1 by directly addressing the core neurochemical deficits rather than just the downstream symptoms. But, Orzeyful has been recommended for scheduling under the Controlled Substances Act in the US. The outcome of the scheduling process is not yet known and is expected by November 2026; until the Drug Enforcement Ad’inistration’s decision is completed, this may act as a barrier to prescribing, distribution, and p”tient access.”
GlobalData forecasts that the four orexin agonists will contribute combined sales of up to $3.0 billion by 2035. Despite being forecast to be the second-to-market orexin agonist, alixorexton is anticipated to be the top-selling asset at the end of the forecast period.
Wong adds: “Alixorexton is being developed for a broad narcolepsy patient population, including patients with NT1 and narcolepsy type 2 (NT2). It is the first orexin agonist to demonstrate clinically meaningful improvements in patients with NT2 in the Vibrance”2 Phase II study.”
In addition to the anticipated launch of orexin agonists, four late-stage narcolepsy assets are anticipated to launch during the forecast period and could offer in-class alternatives to current narcolepsy treatments, such as the histamine-3 antagonists and antidepressants. However, KOLs interviewed by GlobalData viewed these assets as less transformative than the orexin class.
While the narcolepsy market is projected to grow during the forecast period across the 7MM, it will face some challenges that will curtail its growth. Potential barriers to growth in the global narcolepsy market include the continued use of inexpensive generic products throughout the forecast period.
Wong concludes: “Pipeline products are expected to have premium pricing over current marketed therapies. This could trigger strict prior authorization and step-therapy requirements by payers, which could delay or limit the uptake of new therapies. Nonetheless, the launches of the pipeline therapies will fuel overall market growth in the narcolepsy space.”
