Drone Strike Hits Russia's Saratov Region, Casualties Reported

(MENAFN) A Ukrainian drone strike damaged civilian infrastructure and left an unknown number of casualties in southwestern Russia early Tuesday, according to a local official.

Saratov Region Governor Roman Busargin said authorities detected an incoming Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle threat in the early morning hours. He confirmed the strike damaged civilian infrastructure in Saratov, a city situated along the Volga River.

The Russian Ministry of Defense had earlier flagged the possibility of attacks in the area, prompting emergency services to go on full alert ahead of the strike. Busargin said rescue crews are now working at the impact sites to assess and respond to the damage.

The number of casualties and their condition have not yet been confirmed. Russian officials have also withheld further details on the extent of structural damage in the region.

The attack comes as hostilities resume following a brief three-day ceasefire, which held during a recent visit to the region by U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
