Russian Barrage Kills 2 in Kyiv, Strikes Hit Cities Nationwide
(MENAFN) At least two people died in Kyiv early Tuesday after Russia unleashed a large-scale, coordinated overnight assault combining drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles against cities and critical infrastructure across Ukraine, officials said.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported 10 additional injuries, five of them serious enough to require hospitalization, including two people in critical condition.
Throughout the night, the Ukrainian Air Force issued repeated emergency warnings as successive waves of unmanned aerial vehicles and fast-moving ballistic missiles bore down on the capital. Air defense officials urged residents again and again to take cover immediately.
Beyond the city itself, the State Emergency Service said Russian forces launched drone strikes on the Boryspil and Fastiv districts of the wider Kyiv region. The assault sparked fires at industrial sites in Boryspil, where seven trucks were destroyed in one blaze. Emergency crews also responded to a logistics facility hit twice by strikes, ultimately putting out all fires at the location.
Klitschko said fire broke out at warehouses and on the grounds of a private school in the Holosiivskyi district, with additional fires erupting in non-residential zones of the Podilskyi and Darnytskyi districts.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine said crews pulled 13 more trapped residents to safety across the city. No official casualty figures have been released yet for areas outside the capital.
In Holosiivskyi, the force of an explosion tore into the 23rd floor of a 26-story non-residential tower. Rescuers freed two people trapped inside a 16-story apartment building nearby and pulled another person from near a burning garage. In the Solomianskyi district, emergency teams extracted 10 residents from a five-story residential building, while firefighters battled blazes at warehouses, private garages and vehicles across the Podilskyi, Darnytskyi and Dniprovskyi districts.
The bombardment reached well beyond Kyiv, striking the Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Chernihiv, Mykolaiv, Cherkasy, Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Kharkiv and Donetsk regions. Russian tactical aircraft also dropped KAB guided glide bombs — among the most destructive weapons in Moscow's arsenal — on frontline positions and civilian sites in the east.
Given the ongoing conflict, independent confirmation of these reports remains difficult.
The onslaught marks a resumption of large-scale hostilities following a brief three-day ceasefire observed during a recent visit to the region by U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
