China Supports Qatar’s Mediation Between US, Iran

(MENAFN) China supports Qatar’s efforts to mediate between the United States and Iran as the conflict between the two countries continues, Chinese Premier Li Qiang tells Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on Monday.

“China supports Qatar's mediation efforts on Middle East issues and is ready to work with Qatar and other regional countries as well as the international community to strive for early peace and tranquility in the region,” Li says during talks with Al Thani, who is visiting China for two days.

Qatar, together with Pakistan, is working to mediate between Washington and Tehran in an effort to end the conflict that began in February.

Li describes Qatar as “an important strategic partner” for China in the Middle East and Gulf region. He says Beijing “stands ready to work with Qatar to further enhance communication and coordination, firmly support each other on issues concerning each other's core interests, and advance bilateral relations to deliver greater benefits to the two peoples.”

The Chinese premier also calls for closer coordination between the two countries’ development strategies and encourages greater investment between them.

"China welcomes Qatari investment in China and supports more Chinese enterprises to invest in Qatar to improve the quality and efficiency of two-way investment.”
