Houthis Confirm Saudi Attacks, Vow to Expand Strikes Across Kingdom
(MENAFN) Yemen’s Houthi group confirmed Tuesday that it had launched a major wave of missile and drone attacks against Saudi Arabia, while pledging to continue striking targets deep inside the kingdom as tensions between the two sides intensify.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the group carried out a “large-scale” operation involving dozens of ballistic missiles and drones.
According to Saree, the attacks targeted Aramco facilities in Abha, Najran and Jizan, along with Khamis Mushait Air Base. He claimed the strikes were “precise and direct” and resulted in significant damage to the targeted sites.
Saree said the operation was carried out in retaliation for Saudi airstrikes in Yemen. He claimed Saudi forces had conducted 121 strikes over three days across Marib, Al-Bayda, Al-Hudaydah, Taiz and Al-Jawf provinces.
He further alleged that Saudi forces had attacked the Central Prison in Al-Hazm, Al-Jawf, resulting in casualties among prisoners and visitors, including women and children.
“We will continue our operations deep inside Saudi territory, target its military buildups, and consolidate the equation of ‘blockade for blockade’ until the aggression stops and the blockade on our dear country is lifted,” Saree said.
Earlier Tuesday, Saudi authorities said Houthi attacks targeting Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jizan and Najran had wounded at least 73 civilians, including women and children.
Saudi energy officials also reported fires at facilities in the southern part of the kingdom, saying some operations at the affected sites had been temporarily suspended.
Saudi-led coalition spokesperson Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki described the attacks as a “dangerous escalation” and said the coalition would take all necessary operational measures to counter the Houthis and eliminate the sources of the threat.
The latest escalation follows reports of advances by Yemeni government forces against the Houthis on several battlefronts, including Al-Jawf, Al-Bayda, Taiz and Al-Hudaydah.
Yemen has remained embroiled in conflict since the Houthis seized Sanaa in 2014, leading a Saudi-led coalition to intervene in March 2015 in support of the internationally recognized Yemeni government.
