Houthi Shelling Kills Two Children, Wounds Fifteen Displaced People in Marib

(MENAFN) Two children were killed and 15 others wounded after Houthi forces shelled a gathering of displaced families in Yemen’s central Marib province, according to local authorities on Tuesday.

The attack took place Monday evening in the Raghwan district, where several projectiles were fired toward an area housing displaced people.

Local authorities said eight children were among those injured in the shelling.

The bombardment also inflicted significant damage on the shelters and belongings of displaced families. Around 16 shelters were destroyed along with their contents, leaving 23 families without housing or essential possessions. Three vehicles were also damaged.

The Houthi group had not immediately issued a response to the authorities’ account.

Government figures indicate that Marib is home to more than 2.2 million displaced people, out of approximately 5 million displaced across Yemen.

Military tensions have recently intensified across several parts of Yemen, with government forces and Houthi fighters engaging on multiple fronts, particularly in Taiz, Al-Jawf and Al-Bayda. The escalation has also been accompanied by airstrikes targeting Houthi-held positions.

Yemen’s conflict began after the Houthis captured Sanaa and other provinces in September 2014. A Saudi-led coalition entered the war in March 2015 to support Yemen’s internationally recognized government.
