Israel Sees Sharp Decline in Returning Citizens Amid Rising Emigration
(MENAFN) The number of Israelis returning to the country dropped significantly in 2025 compared with 2009, falling by 58% amid growing concerns over increasing emigration and estimates that nearly 1 million Israelis now reside abroad.
Figures presented to an Israeli parliamentary committee showed that only 4,483 Israelis returned to the country in 2025, compared with 10,903 in 2009.
The data was discussed during a session of the Knesset’s Committee for Immigration, Absorption and Diaspora Affairs, which focused on the growing number of Israelis choosing to live outside the country.
According to research presented during the meeting, approximately 141,000 Israelis returned after spending time abroad between 2005 and 2024, averaging about 7,000 returnees each year.
Estimates submitted to the committee indicate that around 1 million Israelis are currently living outside the country
