Serbian Airlines Gain Access to Kaliningrad Flights
(MENAFN) Serbian airlines receive authorization to operate regular flights to Russia’s Kaliningrad region following an agreement between the aviation authorities of Serbia and Russia, according to the Russian Transport Ministry.
Under the arrangement, approved Serbian carriers gain the right to launch scheduled services to Kaliningrad. However, authorities do not specify when the flights will begin or which airlines will operate the routes.
Kaliningrad is a Russian exclave situated on the Baltic Sea and separated from the rest of Russia by Lithuania and Belarus. The territory also borders NATO members Lithuania and Poland, making it an important point of regional security concern.
The exclave has become increasingly prominent in Baltic security tensions since 2022, particularly amid disputes over transit through Lithuania, heightened military activity and several air-policing incidents in the surrounding area.
