Bennett Condemns Attacks on Arab Homes as Jewish Terrorism
(MENAFN) Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett says setting fire to homes while innocent Arab residents remain inside constitutes "Jewish terrorism," stressing that such actions should be condemned.
"If someone comes to burn down the home of innocent Arabs with the people inside it, then of course that is Jewish terrorism.
"If it is done for nationalist reasons, that is the definition," Bennett says during the Besheva conference on Sunday.
He calls for such acts to be denounced and questions their connection to the Israeli settlement movement, saying: "I don’t understand how this serves the settlement movement."
Bennett makes the remarks ahead of Israel’s general elections, scheduled for Oct. 27. The upcoming vote is expected to focus heavily on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party and his main political rivals, including former army Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot and Bennett.
His comments also come as reports indicate an increase in attacks involving Israeli forces and settlers in the occupied West Bank in recent days.
