South Korean Cosmetic Surgery Platform Suffers Major Data Breach
(MENAFN) Personal data belonging to nearly 220,000 users of South Korea’s leading cosmetic surgery platform, Gangnam Unni, is exposed following a cyberattack, with the breach reportedly involving highly sensitive information about medical consultations and procedures.
A total of 219,665 users are affected, including approximately 160,000 in South Korea and 48,000 in Japan. The incident also impacts 4,218 users in Taiwan, 1,591 in Thailand, 481 in China and 5,308 users across English-speaking and other countries, according to reports.
The compromised information includes users’ names, telephone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth and other personal details.
The breach also exposes more sensitive consultation records. These include the cosmetic procedures users inquire about, the hospitals and doctors they select, preferred appointment times and photographs submitted during consultations.
Additional information reportedly includes details of procedures users actually undergo, hospital and procedure dates, as well as certain payment-related information.
The company operating the platform detects unusual access to an application programming interface used to retrieve consultation records on Sept. 4. Investigators say the same attacker attempts to exploit another access route the following day.
